Dear Friends of Rainbow’s End,
Here in South Africa we are experiencing lovely summer weather. The vineyards have had their manicure: the suckering has been done twice, excess foliage removed and the shoots correctly positioned and tipped.
At the moment excess bunches are being removed to improve the quality of the wine and all the green bunches are being removed at veraison.
Plans are underfoot to keep the birds away from an easy meal and the empty cd’s as well as nets are being placed back in the vineyards. ( Anything that moves or glitters gets the job done ! )
The birds and baboons are not the only concern. While Anton was taking a group of visitors on a vineyard drive, a huge Cape Cobra slithered across the road !  A gentle reminder that we all need to tread carefully in this season of plenty!
Last but definitely not least; our wines ! The 16th February is an important date on the Rainbow’s End calender. The launch of our 2008 wines and barrel tastings will be held then. As usual we are making a special effort to make it a pleasant, memorable evening under the stars for our clients and other guests. Scrumptious South African faire will be provided along with the tasting of the wines. The 2007 Cabernet Franc was very popular and is almost sold out and will be followed by the soon to be released special Limited Edition Cabernet Franc 2007 of which only 1300 bottles have been made. Our ever popular Shiraz as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot ( all 2008 ) will also be available for tasting. A feast of reds !
Cheers, untill we meet again, happy drinking and dining, Ingrid.
